The Backstory

The Prospeo.io team has been on my radar since they first launched their email finder. Back when I was at Clay, we ran one of the first email enrichment bake-offs and Prospeo won first place -- they went straight to the top of the waterfall. After I left Clay, they asked me: "If someone could build a contact and company database for you, what would you want in it?" I gave them a full spec. Then I did not hear from them for two years.

A week ago, they reached out: "Remember those specs? We finally finished it."

After testing it, we are shifting most -- if not all -- of our company and contact searching over to Prospeo. Two reasons: data quality is on par or better than what we have been using, and the API is fantastic.

Speed and Interface

The first thing that stands out is how fast the platform is. You type in a search and results come back instantly. The UI is clean and responsive.

But the real story is the filters.

Company Filters That Mirror LinkedIn

Prospeo has mapped their company filters to match LinkedIn company filters. This is a big deal for our workflow. In 2026, our plan is to take every new customer's do-not-contact list, enrich it for industries, pull all companies in those industries, score them for ICP fit, and then find contacts after that.

We had been building our own Supabase database with over 7 million companies to do exactly this. We are giving up on that project entirely and switching to Prospeo because it does exactly what we needed.

Here is what you get in the company filters:

  • Employee headcount
  • Location data
  • Industry filters -- and they show you how many companies are in each industry before you add it, which updates dynamically as you adjust other filters
  • Company keywords -- AI-generated keywords, LinkedIn company description keywords, and SEO keywords
  • Buying intent (powered by Bombora)
  • Technologies (powered by Wappalyzer)
  • Offers demo / free trial attributes (unique -- have not seen this on other platforms)
  • Job postings and headcount by department
  • Company email provider -- increasingly useful for outbound deliverability planning

Every company filter is also available in the person search. There is no difference between them.

Person Filters

On the contact side, you get:

  • Total years of experience
  • Time in current role
  • Time at current company

These are filters that used to be Sales Navigator-specific. Having them in a database with this level of API access is a game changer.

Duplicate Control

This is something I specifically asked the Prospeo team to build. When you run an outbound agency with 50+ customers, you need to keep track of who you have already targeted.

Their duplicate control lets you:

  1. Hide people on an exclusion list -- global do-not-contact
  2. Hide people on a specific list -- customer-level exclusion
  3. Hide people you have already exported -- so you only process net-new contacts

This means we can make sure contacts we export have never been reached out to by our agency on behalf of any customer.

Data Quality

Every test I ran came back completely up to date. The only minor issue was occasional dual-role conflicts -- people who list two concurrent roles on LinkedIn -- and the team is working on that. It affects a small fraction of contacts.

I did direct comparisons of the Prospeo database against Clay's company database and Clay's people database. They were always within 5-7% of each other. Sometimes Prospeo had more, sometimes Clay had more, depending on the filters.

The API: The Real Differentiator

This is where Prospeo pulls ahead for us. The API is phenomenal, and for a team using Claude Code and Cursor, that matters enormously.

API JSON for Devs: There is a feature in the UI where you can visually create your search, hit "Copy Payload," and get the exact JSON you would send to the API. This bridges the gap between team members who prefer a visual interface and the backend workflows running on Trigger.dev or Railway.

Person Enrichment API: When you enrich a person, the payload includes:

  • Full person data and job history
  • Email status and location
  • Company data bundled in -- no separate company enrichment call needed

This solves a common pain point. Usually you have 10 contacts at the same company and you have to build logic to avoid enriching the company 10 times. Prospeo just includes it.

Flexible Lookup Methods: You can enrich a person with:

  • First name + last name + company name
  • Full name + any identifier
  • LinkedIn URL
  • Email address (huge for reverse lookups)
  • Person ID from the search API

Search API: Returns up to 25,000 results in one search. For larger lists (300,000+ contacts), you need pagination, but the structure is there.

Unique Link Sharing

Every search generates a unique URL, just like a Clay table or an Apollo search or a Sales Navigator search. Makes it easy to share specific searches across your team.
